If you've ever tried filling an empty Nespresso capsule with matcha powder and pressing brew, you already know what happens: the machine can't puncture it properly, the powder stays inside, and you end up with hot water and a mess. It doesn't work.
The right way is simpler than you'd think — and it starts with the right pod.
What you need
A Nespresso® Original Line machine (Essenza, Pixie, Citiz, Inissia, or any Original Line model) and a PODHAUS matcha pod. That's it. No whisk, no sifter, no milk frother required unless you want one.
How to brew it
- Fill your machine's water tank and let it warm up.
- Insert your PODHAUS matcha pod — Ceremonial or Salted Caramel, your call.
- Press the Espresso button once.
- That's the cup. Drink it as-is, or add oat milk, ice, or a little honey depending on the day.
The whole thing takes under a minute.
Why ceremonial grade matters here
When you're brewing matcha through a pod system, the quality of the powder is everything. Culinary-grade matcha is designed for baking — it's more bitter, less refined, and the flavour profile doesn't hold up when you're drinking it straight.
Ceremonial grade matcha is stone-ground from the youngest tea leaves, shaded before harvest to maximise chlorophyll and L-theanine content. It's what traditional Japanese tea ceremony uses. And it's what PODHAUS puts in every pod.
The result is a cup that's smooth rather than sharp, grounding rather than jittery — closer to how matcha is supposed to taste.
A few ways to use it
Straight: Press Espresso button once or twice (depending on how concentrated you want your matcha to be), drink as-is. Clean and focused.
Iced matcha: Brew directly over ice. The cold extraction keeps it smooth.
Iced Matcha latte: Brew your pod over a small amount of water, then top with steamed or cold oat/almond milk.

Salted caramel matcha latte: Use the Salted Caramel PODHAUS pod, brew over ice, add cold milk. No syrups, no extra steps.

The difference between a good cup and a great one
Temperature and ratio matter even with pods. If your machine runs hotter than usual, let it do a brief rinse cycle before brewing your matcha — starting with clean, properly tempered water makes a noticeable difference in the final taste.
Other than that, the pod does the work. Insert, press, done.
